About Vlassides Winery

Vlassides Winery Cyprus is family-owned winery with a tradition of excellence in red wine. We produce high quality wines from grape varieties Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. We produce wines from our own vineyards, in the area around Kilani village, south of Troodos, at an altitude of 700 – 1,100 meters.

The Vlassides family first planted vines in the Kilani region in the 1800s. In 1970, Fanis Vlassides took over the vineyards and planted Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet in experimental plots to introduce new varieties. This love on wine was passed onto his son, Sofocles, who is today the chief winemaker of Vlassides Winery.

In addition to continuing our mastery of international varieties, we continue planting of Cypriot varieties such as Maratheftiko, Gianoudi, Xynisteri, Promara and Morokanella, leading to exciting new wines.

Our commitment to quality Cyprus wines has been recognised in a range of competitions, including by the Grand Gold Medal of the Thessaloniki Wine Competition for Cabernet Sauvignon 2000, the Gold Medal for Shiraz at the Brussels Wine Competition in 2003, and the 2006 Shiraz vintage at the Third Cyprus Wine Competition in 2008.

In 2011, we mark the opening of a new winery, set in a modern vineyard of 4 hectares. This permits us to expand production capacity to some 110,000 bottles of wine per year, and improve our quality still further. We look forward to welcoming you in 2012!
